Brunei: Top 10 International Tourist Arrivals in 2019


According to statistics from Tourism Development Department, Ministry of Primary Resources and Tourism of Brunei Darussalam; and Immigration and National Registration Department, Ministry of Home Affairs of Brunei Darussalam, the number of international tourist arrivals from Top 10 Countries in 2019* are ranked as following:

1. Malaysia: 50.111 tourists (+30.8%)
2. China: 49.533 tourists (+8.2%)
3. Indonesia: 20.445 tourists (+10.8%)
4. Philippines: 16.971 tourists (+10.4%)
5. South Korea: 10.690 tourists (+96.4%)
6. United Kingdom: 9.325 tourists (+15.7%)
7. Singapore: 8.924 tourists (-1.6%)
8. Japan: 6.333 tourists (+74.3%)
9. India: 6.145 tourists (+9.4%)
10. Australia: 6.134 tourists (+9.6%)

* Number of international tourists arrivals to Brunei by air in Jan-Aug 2019, growth comparing to Jan-Aug 2018.

In January 2020 Brunei hosted ATF 2020, gathering travel professionals from 43 countries and territories. Tourism Development Department, Ministry of Primary Resources and Tourism of Brunei Darussalam shared with international media recent updates on tourism developments and achievments.

In 2019, the number of tourist arrivals by air has increased at 16.0% (year-on-year). The contributing factors are the high impact of travel demand from the Far East Market such as China, Hong Kong, South Korea and Japan, improvement on the air connectivity for flights from the Far East Market, local events and international sports events.

Brunei – China Year of Tourism 2020 is promising next level in tourism growth. Number of direct flights between Brunei Darussalam and China will be increased.

Major Developments in tourism infrastructure are marked with first ‘luxury’ eco-resort on a 2 hectare land in Kg Perdayan; renovating the old District Office to become an information centre; and setting up a River Centre in Kg Batang Duri. Costing about $4.5 million in total, the eco-resort project includes 30 accommodation units that may be classified according to its sizes, a fine-dining restaurant, a swimming pool and spa as well as facilities for recreational activities including jets and zip-lines.
