Malaysia: Langkawi


Langkawi is one of the most popular tourist destinations within Malaysia for several decades. Langkawi is the most Northern archipelago located on the Westside of Peninsular Malaysia about 30 km off the mainland. Langkawi consists of the main island Pulau Langkawi and 99 small surrounding islands.

Langkawi Island has been given a World Geopark status by UNESCO in 2007, this eventually attracts even more tourists to this beautiful  tropical island.

Langkawi has an amazingly beautiful nature and many interesting sights and attractions. Langkawi was known as a pirate area for a long time ago.This turbulent history gave the origin for many mysterious legends and both beautiful and strange tales about Langkawi that are being told until now.

Langkawi is one of the best places to visit in Malaysia and also a great destination for families with children.

Langkawi has a duty-free status. Tourism is the main source of income for the islands population. Local people are more in more involved into different activities, related to tourism industry. Some incomes also comes from traditional fishing and padi-rice cultivation.
