Cambodia: Phnom Penh


Phnom Penh is the capital of Cambodia. Phnom Penh is located on the banks of the Mekong, Tonle Sap and Bassac Rivers.

It is the largest, the wealthiest and the most populous city in the kingdom. Name of the capital is literally translated to mean “Hill of Penh”. Phnom Penh was founded and became a capital city in XV century. This khmer city is noted for its numerous historical attractions.  In the 1920s Phnom Penh was considered one of the loveliest French-built cities in all Indochina and was frequently mentioned as the “Pearl of Asia”.

Phnom Penh as political and commercial hub of Cambodia accounts for a large portion of the Cambodian economy.

Recent years are considered as economic boom in Phnom Penh. New hotels, residential and administrative buildings are springing up around the city with rapidly increasing prices for real estate.
