Singapore: tourism sector performance in 2019

According to statistics from Singapore Tourism Board (STB), the number of international tourist arrivals in 2019 reached 15.9 million visitors (Jan to Oct 2019), increased 2.3%.

International visitor arrivals by nationality from Top 10 markets to Singapore in 2019 are ranked as following (TOP 10):

1. China: 3.105.423 visitors (+4.9%)
2. Indonesia: 2.503.189 visitors (+1.2%)
3. India: 1.188.958 visitors (-1.2%)
4. Malaysia: 975.727 visitors (-1.8%)
5. Australia: 935.981 visitors (+0.9%)
6. Japan: 741.753 visitors (+7.2%)
7. Philippines: 679.957 visitors (+6.4%)
8. USA: 587.672 visitors (+12.4%)
9. South Korea: 543.760 visitors (+1.3%)
10. Vietnam: 508.290 visitors (-1.4%)

* Number of international tourists arrivals to in Jan-Oct 2019, growth comparing to Jan-Oct 2018.

STB shared with international media about recent tourism updates on ATF 2020 in Brunei Darussalam, the biggest regional tourism event gathering professionals from 43 countries and territories.

According to STB year 2018 shown exceptional growth of cruise passengers. This successful trend continued in 2019 due to marketing partnership with Royal Caribbean International and Changi Airport Group in 2019. The target is to reach 4.5 million cruise passengers sailing in SEA by 2035.

Hotel industry performance in 2019:
Average occupancy rate: 87.2% (+0.5% YoY)
Average room rate: S$219
New hotel openings: 9 hotels

Quality tourism strategy includes 4 aspects: enhancing destination attractiveness, supporting industry competitiveness, building local engagement, pursuing a yield-driven marketing approach.

STB also informed about Visit Singapore Travel App and Tourism Information & Services Hub, as Singapore’s digital resource for tourism businesses, an integrated platform which helps businesses to connect, collaborate and share software services.
