Crown Prince Maha Vajiralongkorn became new king of Thailand on Thursday, December 1, 2016. An official announcement was done after Crown Prince accepted an invitation from parliament to succeed his father, H.M. King Bhumibol Adulyadej, Rama IX The Great, who passed away in October. On official ceremony at Dusit Palace in Bangkok, Crown Prince was crowned as the King Maha Vajiralongkorn Bodindradebayavarangkun, Rama X, the 10th king of Chakri Dynasty of Thailand.
H.M. King Bhumibol Adulyadej was widely loved by all Thai nation and regarded as a pillar of stability during decades of political turbulence in the country.
New King of Thailand told Reuteurs: “Because of the popularity and veneration of the previous king it would be hard for any person to step into the role because of expected comparisons”.
